Bones is a very special design for Dua, born out of a long process during which I discovered a deeper level of work beyond mere curiosity, embroidery techniques, and creation. Prior to embarking on this introspective journey of exploring my abilities, passions, and designs influenced by styles that have always inspired me, I initially felt a paralyzing fear of failing to translate the ideas that were brewing in my mind. But after pondering over it for a long time, a latent idea started to take shape in my mind, with my brain imaginatively weaving each bead and color… until I could no longer hold back and began to embroider. More than 100 hours later (three months dedicated to this project), Bones was born – a jacket that is 100% hand-knitted and filled with beads, buttons, unused bracelet charms, tubes, laces, and a variety of other materials, all coming together to create a beautiful texture that shines through every detail!
With a limited budget for visual production (photography and video), I began to reach out to friends that life had introduced me to – people with beautiful talents who were capable of bringing this jacket to life. I approached Alejo, my fx teacher @bimana_fx, asking for a skull that would complement my “chalaquero” outfit, and with just a brush, he was able to manifest the exact image I had envisioned! Under the lens of a very good friend I had met during one of my previous jobs in the city, we started freezing unique moments on the streets of Envigado, telling stories through a jacket and teamwork. For these reasons and many more, Bones has a special vibe, because from the outset, it was a challenge that I wasn’t sure I could face. But through perseverance and discipline – pushing beyond the comfort zone and exploring, even if the first idea or attempt isn’t the best – it was worth it!
